Send A Fax Online Faxing Tips
Request birth certificate by fax for free using HelloFaxIf you were born in a state that doesn't accept email or online applications for birth certificates, or that charges extra for online applications, fax is the fastest and easiest way to request a birth certificate. These days, most people don't have a fax machine, but if you have access to the Internet, you can submit your application via HelloFax for free.*
Download the ApplicationThe first thing you need to do is download the application to your computer. Here are the download links to applications for two states that don't accept online applications:

Colorado and Minnesota allow use third party services that charge extra for online applications, but if you prefer to fax, here are links to their applications:

Fill Out and Sign the Application
Once you've downloaded the form, you'll need to complete, sign, then fax the form back. HelloFax's free account makes this extremely easy.Step 1: Sign up for a free HelloFax account
Go to HelloFax.com, select "Get started" and fill out the application. On the first page, you'll be given the option to create your signature now or you can do it later. If you choose to create it now, you will be given the following four options:
- Draw it in [with your mouse]
- Type in signature [HelloFax will convert the text to a signature font]
- Upload image file [if you have an image of your signature, you can upload it]
- Smartphone [take a picture of your signature with your smartphone and send it directly to HelloFax]
Choose your preferred method and follow the steps.
If you're more comfortable waiting to add your signature until the account is created, you can easily complete this step later.
You will be given the option to receive faxes during the signup process. You do not need this to submit your application, so select "No thanks, I'm good."Step 2: Prepare Documents
Once you've created the account, you will be presented with the "Send a fax" form, but before you send the fax, you need to add your signature if you haven't done so. If you added your signature during the signup process, skip ahead to the next paragraph. On the bottom left side of the screen, you'll see an option to "Add a signature." Click the link and you will see the four different options to add a signature mentioned above. Choose your preferred method and follow the steps.
You will also need to include a copy of approved identification (eg: a driver's license) with the application. The application should state what types of identification are approved, but if you are unsure, you should call the department that handles the birth certificate requests. If you have don't have a scanner or a digital copy of an approved form of identification, you can take a picture of the form with a phone or digital camera, and save the image to your computer.Step 3: Create the Fax
Now that your signature is uploaded and your identification is saved on your computer, make sure you are on the "Send a fax" tab and select "upload files." Locate the birth certificate application request file that you downloaded on your computer, select it and choose "open." Then select "upload files" again, locate the image of your approved identification, and choose "open."
Now, you'll see a small preview of the files on the screen with an option to "Edit & Sign" the form. Click "Edit & Sign" next to the application and you will be able to add text, the date and "check marks" everywhere they are requested on the form. Once you've filled out the relevant information, place your signature on the signature line in the document. The interface allows you to resize and move the signature very easily. Before you move on from this step, locate the fax number on the application where you'll need to send the document and write it down.Step 4: Send the Fax
Once you've finished editing the form, click the "Continue" button in the top right corner. You'll be taken back to the "Send a fax" page. All you need to do now is enter the fax number that you wrote down from the application and hit "Send it now."
Voila, your application has been submitted by fax at no cost to you!!
