About Online Fax Services:

Once you use an online fax service, you will never consider the traditional method again. These services are cheaper, more secure and more convenient than their nearly extinct counterparts. When you sign up for an online fax service, you will be given a dedicated phone number (local or toll free). When some sends a fax to that number (from either a traditional fax machine or another online fax service) that fax will be forwarded to your email inbox. You can also send faxes using these services through your email, a smartphone app (if they offer one) or by logging into the fax provider's website.

Different online fax service providers offer different features, pricing, and customer service options, but each service provider will typically offer the following:

  • A free trial to test the service
  • An "economy" plan, which is enough for most people, costing less than $10/ month and including at least 300 pages/ month: either sent or received
  • A dedicated local number through which you can receive faxes (toll-free numbers are also typically available, but sometimes cost extra)
  • The ability to send and receive faxes both through your email and the company's online interface

When you sign up for an online fax service plan, you'll create an account with the usual credentials like username, password, email address, etc. During this process, you will also select your online fax number. You'll typically be given two or three options: local, 866, 877, 888 toll free, or 800 toll-free (800 numbers are the most expensive). If you choose a local number, make sure that you select by city, not just area code. You'll also be required to enter your credit card information, even if you're signing up for a free trial. Once you complete the purchase, you'll be able to access your account, designate which emails you want to receive faxes, view a received fax or send a fax (this is simply an alternative to sending and recieving faxes through your email), pay your bill, etc.

Impartial and Trustworthy

At FindAFax, our goal is to provide you with the same helpful and unbiased advice we wished we'd had access to when we started our business. To be certain that we are truly objective and unbiased, our research team has absolutely no financial or performance-based incentives to favor any service over any other service.

Advantages of an Online Fax Service (also known as an "Internet Fax Service" or "Email Fax Service"):
  • Very inexpensive: Most services are less than $10/ month, and online fax services do not require the expense of a fixed landline.
  • No extra hardware: Online fax services work through your browser and email (and, in a few cases downloadable software), but none of them require additional hardware. Scanning papers that need to be faxed can be done using a smartphone camera, if you don't already have a scanner.
  • Mobile: Because faxes are received through email, you will be able to receive the fax anywhere you can read your email.
  • More secure: You don't have to worry about a fax coming in and the wrong person picking it up off the machine.
  • Paperless: Because the sending and receiving process for online fax services is digital, there is no need to waste paper unnecessarily.
  • Maintenace Free: All the online fax services on FindAFax are updated and maintained by the service providers. When features are added or issues arise, the service provider can update your account without having to involve IT professionals

j2 Global & eFax

eFax is one of the most well known and oldest online fax brands on the market, but the service's reach is even broader than most people realize. eFax's parent company, j2 Global, has purchased many of eFax's competitors over the years, and has migrating those customers to eFax's platform while maintaining the aquired company's branding. This may not be important to some people, but for those who are interested, the following companies are all owned by j2 Global:

  • eFax
  • MetroFax
  • MyFax
  • TrustFax
  • RapidFax
  • Send2Fax
  • Fax.com

A Message from the FindAFax Team

We've created this site because we are passionate about finding great technology tools that ordinary people can use to save money and be more efficient. Online faxing is one simple tool that is useful for individuals and businesses. As long as faxing is a part of our society's communication requirements (which, for better or worse, it is), online fax services are the best solution. Our company and the individuals who work here use online fax services in our own lives, and our commitment is to be 100% honest and 100% helpful to our readers and visitors, so that they can have a similarly positive experience to our own.

The variety of online fax services and plans available can be overwhelming, but, by narrowing down the options based on your specific needs (HIPAA compliance, mobile apps, e-signatures, cheap, etc), the choices become dramatically more clear. Our goal with FindAFax is to make it as simple as possible to identify the services that meet your needs and help you pick the best one FOR YOU.
